Our story began at a Coffee Meets Bagel launch party in Sydney...
His Version
“Hi, I’m Nancy!” her voice echoed through the room, hand stretched out, the handshake was firm, like she knew exactly what she wanted. “Who is this girl?”, John thought. John wasn’t sure if it was the way that she carried herself, the fact that she wanted to learn Python (the programming language, not the snake), or the way she shamelessly got everyone to maximise the free cocktails, but he knew this girl was something special or at least knew how to party.
Her Version
“My head hurts so much!”, Nancy thought the next day. She had one too many free cocktails at “Palmer & Co.”, how could she possible pass out on value like that, especially in Sydney! Her motto was “go hard or go home” though she usually picked the former of simply going home. Memories of the night were vague, however, there was that one guy who called her out for running to the bathroom. “I’ll probably never see him again”, she thought. “Bzzzzzzt”, her phone buzzed. “Oh? It’s the guy from the other night, and he wants to hang out…”
They started out friends, on a walk around Sydney, they stopped to admire the scenery in silence. Time went by, not a single word was uttered, yet they both felt oddly comfortable. It was the purest form of enjoying one’s company, to sit in each others’ silence.
And then started dating and the rest was history… except they didn’t

They stayed in touch despite being continents apart and, one day, decided to give it a shot. They committed to seeing each other every 3-4 months which meant a lot of traveling.
Summer 2018 | SAN FRANCISCO
2 years of long distance later, Nancy moves to San Francisco to start on their next chapter…
MARCH 2022 | LANAI, HAWAII
The Proposal
While holidaying in Hawaii, John had planned to propose after a hike at Pu‘upehe, an iconic landmark in Lanai. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when Nancy accidentally stubbed her toe and became unable to walk. However, there was a backup plan. During a sailing cruise, John proposed against the backdrop of the Hawaiian sunset.
